Ledger OS — a calmer B2B finance console

Overview

Ledger OS is the internal console finance teams use to reconcile, review, and close the books. It had grown feature-by-feature into a wall of tables no one trusted.

The problem

Reconciliation spanned six screens and three mental models. Analysts kept a parallel spreadsheet “for real work” — the surest sign the product had failed them.

Process

I ran contextual interviews with eight analysts, mapped the true close workflow, and rebuilt it around a single reconciliation surface with progressive disclosure. Every state — loading, partial, disputed, locked — got a designed answer, not a default.

Outcome

Month-end close dropped 40%. The shadow spreadsheets disappeared within two cycles.
